Hair & Makeup Timeline

When thinking about a timeline for services for Hair and Makeup on wedding day, there are some key things to think about...

Timeline Planning Tips

START TIME CALCULATION: Always start your "timeframe" from your SOFT end time. If you need to be done at 3pm, set 2:30pm as your "schedule set time"

AESTHETIC COORDINATION: If you have an aesthetic to follow, sometimes it makes the math easier - everyone gets soft glam / all the bridesmaids are getting half up half down. If you don't have ideas for everyone, go based off the HIGHEST service they might want:

Sarah wears makeup EVERY day = Full Glam

Katie NEVER wears makeup = Soft Glam

Bride always gets 1 hour for both services

IMPORTANT: The ONLY time one artist would be scheduled for both hair and makeup is if it's a short timeline or your service number is higher than 8.

Service times per "AESTHETIC" or "Style"

WHO GOES FIRST?

📋 Scheduling Order Best Practices

FIRST IN CHAIR: Schedule someone who is already onsite if possible, or someone(s) you know without a doubt will be early to start on time.

MOMS TIMING: ❌ Moms should NEVER go first ✅ They move around more than anyone in the mornings ✅ They should be 2nd or 3rd

CURLY HAIR CONSIDERATION: There will be an infographic sent 2 months before the wedding (and again 2 weeks before) - no one can have wet hair. If someone has curly hair, they can usually go earlier unless specified.

BRIDE POSITIONING: 🎀 Bride should go in the MIDDLE of services!

  • You don't want to be rushing LAST
  • You don't want to skip lunch (always makes you late)
  • Aim to be 3rd or 4th in the chair
  • We can "fake" touch-up pictures when photographer arrives if you want pictures of you in the chair

Example Timelines

(1 Stylist)

Nicole needs 8 services (her + 7 services)

Her timeline at the venue - Bridal party gets access to the space at 8:00am then need to be ready for bridal party pictures by 3:00pm and ceremony is at 5:00pm.

( I didn't make this timeline this was made by a planner)

Time Block 1 Booked Stylist
9:00 am Stylist Arrival to Venue Stylist sets up both kits
9:15am - 9:50 am service 1 makeup - clean girl or soft glam can fit in a 40 minute window
9:55am - 10:30am service 2 makeup - clean girl or soft glam can fit in a 40 minute window
10:35am - 11:10am service 3 makeup - clean girl or soft glam can fit in a 40 minute window
11:15am - 11:50am service 4 makeup - clean girl or soft glam can fit in a 40 minute window
11:55am - 12:30pm service 5 Hair: Updo or short length hair curl / half up can fit in a 40 minute window
12:35pm - 1:10pm service 6 Hair: Updo or short length hair curl / half up can fit in a 40 minute window
1:15pm - 1:50pm service 7 Hair: Updo or short length hair curl / half up can fit in a 40 minute window
1:55pm - 2:30pm service 8 Hair: Updo or short length hair curl / half up can fit in a 40 minute window
2:30pm soft end to 3:00pm Touch ups (5 minutes per service)

My advice ALWAYS account for mishaps on wedding morning and book an extra service *Buffer time of 30 minutes*

oops this doesnt account for the BRIDES 2 hour window we really probably need so now you are late :( My suggestion here is adding + 1 service time to your morning this would solve both the touch up running behind and the bride not scheduling enough time

Example Timelines - I MADE FOR BRIDE

******** All things considered having done this wedding - I would have preferred to have everything move up 15 minutes so we were done packing up, cleaned up and moved out of the space 2:45pm so the bridal suite was spotless for the getting dressed pictures that started at 3pm
